The iPhone X will have 3GB of RAM, leaked document confirms

We already know the iPhone X will be the most powerful — and the most expensive — iPhone ever.

But now, thanks to an Apple filing with Chinese regulator TENAA , spotted by OnLeaks (Steve Hemmerstoffer), we know its exact specs.

According to the document, the iPhone X will have a 2,716 milliamp-hour (mAh) battery and 3GB of RAM.

While we can’t vouch for the document’s authenticity, OnLeaks also posted the TENAA filing for the iPhone 8 (before the phone hit the stores), and the battery capacity listed there matched the actual battery capacity for that device.

The iPhone X’s battery capacity is a tad more generous than the iPhone 8 Plus’s, which has a 2,675mAh battery. Still, it’s not the biggest battery seen in an iPhone; at 2,915mAh and 2,900mAh, the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 7 Plus are ahead.

If this sounds disappointing, note that Apple has mostly maintained the same — or better — battery life on its phones as they evolved, while keeping the actual battery capacity similar, or even lowering it. Android manufacturers, on the other hand, have generally been racing to stuff bigger batteries into their phones. The notable exception is Samsung, whose Galaxy Note 8 has a considerably smaller battery than its explosive predecessor.

As for the 3GB of RAM figure, again, this may sound low compared to some Androids, which often sport 4GB of RAM or more, but in Apple’s world this is a big upgrade. Note that the iPhone 8 (2GB RAM) and the iPhone 8 Plus (3GB RAM) outperformed competitors by a large margin in our testing.

But it also means that, with the same A11 Bionic chip, the same amount of RAM and just a slightly bigger battery, the iPhone X is likely to perform very similarly to the iPhone 8 Plus.
