When North and South Korean athletes walked out together during the Pyeonchang Winter Olympics opening ceremony Friday, most people present cheered it as a sign of possible peace during a tumultuous time.
But not Vice President Mike Pence.
Pence and his wife Karen were in attendance for the Parade of Nations as competing athletes of the world filed in. Athletes from North and South Korea entered together, wearing matching outfits and waving flags. The stadium erupted in cheers for the symbolic show of unity.
As everyone stood, the Pences sat the whole thing out.
Hmmmmm, protesting something by not standing. I feel like we’ve seen that somewhere before…
Oh yeah, the NFL protests.
Seems like it was only yesterday that Mike Pence orchestrated a complicated scheme to attend an NFL game, and leave in outrage when players took a knee during the national anthem.
Those were the days.
We are far from the only ones to spot this similarity.
Mike Pence: Hey NFL, keep your politics out of sports!
Also Mike Pence : We should totally inject politics into the Olympics!

Of course, it’s a bit apples and oranges to compare North Korea’s human rights record/global nuclear threats and the NFL protesting America’s systematic racial biases. But there’s still enough crossover to make the vice president seem pretty hypocritical.
Let the games begin!
