Dwayne Johnson is a respected and accomplished film actor. But he will also always be The Rock, as evidenced in his latest Instagram post recapping his point of view of the now-famous mix-up at the 89th annual Academy Awards.
The Moana star on Tuesdayshared a photoof himself in the audience, as he and other celebrities realized that the wrong movie was announced as the winner for the Oscar for best picture. The true winner was Moonlight, but the cast and creators of La La Land were already on stage.
Johnsons Instagram photo shows clear confusion in the crowd: Salma Hayek looks nervous. Meryl Streep was wide-eyed. Matt Damon looked dumbfounded. But Johnson seemed to channel his former pro-wrestling self raised eyebrow, intense stare and all.
In fact, Johnson looked like he was about to go full-on The Rock during the confusing situation.
You can literally see my wheels spinnin on whether or not I should hit the stage and take down an Oscars producer who I thought went rogue and was trying to sabotage our final moment of the night as La La Land was accepting for Best Picture, Johnson wrote on Instagram.
He went on to explain the disbelief he felt as the notorious events unfolded, and expressed his respect for La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz for calling the Moonlight crew on stage.
If Horowitz hadnt handled things so gracefully, Johnson joked, things in the audience may have turned quite messy.
Thankfully, Jordan gave us the clarity we needed, because as much as I love and adore Meryl, I was willing to rumble over her to take down the producer going rogue, Johnson said.
So if you had to ask, yes. From the picture below, we can definitely smell what The Rock was cooking.
You can literally see my wheels spinnin' on whether or not I should hit the stage and take down an Oscars producer who I thought went rogue and was trying to sabotage our final moment of the night as La La Land was accepting for Best Picture. Seconds before this I saw out of the corner of my eye, the producer saying loudly, "NO IT'S MOONLIGHT, the winner is MOONLIGHT!" as he walked up onto the stage. When he walked on stage, I remember sitting up and saying to @laurenhashianofficial, "What the f*cks he doing?". She grabbed my arm and said, "Oh my God, they made a mistake". The rest was history. In crazy moments like that, we need leaders to step up and take charge… I give La La Land producer, Jordan Horowitz much respect for stepping up to the mic and calling the Moonlight filmmakers and actors to the stage to accept their award. Thankfully, Jordan gave us the clarity we needed, because as much as I love and adore Meryl, I was willing to rumble over her to take down the producer going rogue.
